Enlightenment... so elusive!
Like birds in bushes, of which Grandma said,
"sprinkle salt on their tail and you can catch them."
A preacher said,
"sit down over there, honey and wait.
They'll come to you."
But another one down the road laughed scornfully,
"You must run out and catch them and
wrestle them to the ground!" he shouted.
Enlightenment!
Everybody else knows how to get it.
They tell us exactly how.
Some even tell us not to bother,
that we already have it now.
And just what is it anyway?
This Enlightenment dude?
Is it learning how to live in peace?
Not to fight and feud?
Or is it knowing how to live?
Or how to die?
Or how to feel feelings?
How to cry?
Is Enlightenment a different bird
in every different tree?
Or is it all one and the same thing?
That every eye can see?
How will you know if you get it?
How will you know it's true?
Or is it like the birds in the bushes
Captured by only a few?
Enlighten ME, N.T!

Merry Christmas 2007
.......
grass shoes for summer
seeming like no shoes at all
grasshoppers go green
Tonight first and last out of past
Broken strings of pearls gleaming,
still warm when held in hand dropped
one by one into the top left
drawer onto the silk scarf neatly
folded.
Open the window wide,
Let the big, bright moon shine
Into the sweetness of night
no screens or doors
between the world outside and in
no screens or doors
seeming like no shoes at all
grasshoppers go green
Tonight first and last out of past
Broken strings of pearls gleaming,
still warm when held in hand dropped
one by one into the top left
drawer onto the silk scarf neatly
folded.
Open the window wide,
Let the big, bright moon shine
Into the sweetness of night
no screens or doors
between the world outside and in
no screens or doors
.......
In the ebb and flow
Where we live but do not dwell
Home is in our heart
Where we live but do not dwell
Home is in our heart
